Obituary

Willard E. Neal, age 83, of Mystic, went to be with the Lord on Monday at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Neal was born in Washington, DC on November 3, 1924 and was born again to the Lord in 1990. Son of Everette and Estelle (Liming) Neal, he was raised in Washington and spent summers on his grandfather’s farm in Ohio. He later volunteered for World War II, serving as a bombardier/navigator in the Army Air Corps.

He enjoyed a long career in shipbuilding, first working at the Naval Model Basin Babcock & Wilson, and later at Electric Boat where he retired as Supervisor of Shipbuilding.

In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with his family and will be remembered for his art and writing interests.

Mr. Neal was married to Beverly (Beal) Neal in March, 1946. She passed on August 9, 1989. Survivors include his sons, Clifford K. Neal of Mystic and Douglas E. Neal and his wife Lynne of Salem; brother, Richard G. Neal of Winston-Salem, NC; grandchildren, Kathleen Neal, James Neal, and Stacey Velez and her husband Julio; great-grandchildren, Naomi, Samantha, and Israel Velez.

A Memorial Service will be conducted at Victory Bible Baptist Church, 6 Fairway Drive, Ledyard, CT 06339 on Saturday at 2pm. Burial of his urn will be private. Please omit flowers and memorial donations may be made to the church.
