Jose C. Adao, 84, of New Bedford died Friday November 9, 2007 at home after a long illness. He was the husband of Maria I. (Andrade) Adao.
Born in Terceira, Azores, the son of the late Luis M. and Maria Luisa (Alves) Adao, he lived in New Bedford since 1968.
He was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church.
Mr. Adao was formerly employed as a welder for Tilcon for many years until retirement and enjoyed welding for family and friends.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Fernando Adao and Rui Adao, both of New Bedford and Luis Adao, and his wife Patricia, of Dartmouth; two daughters, Teresa Almeida, and her husband Artur, and Lucy Sykes, and her husband Dennis, all of New Bedford; two sisters, Helena Cardoso of Terceira, Azores and Fatima Estelle of Savannah, GA; eight grandchildren, Fernando, Maria, Dennis, Jessica, Louie, Jr., Robert, Carrie and David; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford Tuesday, November 13th at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at St. John the Baptist Church at 10 AM. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Monday, November 12th from 4-8 PM.
