Obituary

Leon Pierre Trahan, 94, of Hampton, NH, died Nov. 8, 2007, surrounded by family in his home.

He was born in Manchester on Sept 10, 1913 to David and Emma (Hamel) Trahan and was the youngest of five children.

He spent most of his life in Manchester and lived the past 10 years in Hampton NH.

He was a member of the 172nd Battalion of the US Army National Guard in Manchester. Their unit and others were responsible for the liberation of the first town in France, Mere St. Eglise, during WWII after landing on Utah Beach, in Normandy France.

He was a fourth degree Knight of Columbus and a communicant of St Theresa Church in Rye NH. He had a devotion towards St. Anthony and St Benedict who was the protector of men in battle.

He and his wife Grace were the former co-owners of the Myrtle Convalescent Home in Manchester and Seacoast Health Center and the Partridge House in Hampton. Their lives were dedicated to the caring of the elderly.

He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Grace E. (Francoeur) Trahan who died May 4, 2007.

He leaves three children, Eileen M Piet, of Hampton, Daniel P. Trahan, of Epsom, and David A. Trahan, of Deerfield;. seven grandchildren, Christopher Gagnon, DeAnne West, Craig Trahan, Keith Trahan, Sarah Trahan, Hannah Trahan and Emily Trahan; three great grandchildren, Lucas L Gagnon, Christopher E. Gagnon and Samantha G. West.

Leon was a dedicated family man who loved having his children and grandchildren surrounding him. He loved to cook, going out for breakfast at Hoaty’s with his friend Tom and building doll houses.



A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday November 12, 2007 at Parish of the Transfiguration, Kelley St., Manchester. Committal prayers followed in Mt. Calvary Mausoleum, 474 Goffstown Rd. Burial was in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Great Bay Chapter of the American Red Cross Nursing Assistant Fund for education materials in Newington NH.
