The following obituary was composed by the deceased, Richard S. Kenyon who died November 2, 2007.
Richard S. Kenyon, 71, of 1028 Union Street was born May 23, 1936 in Worcester, MA, the son of Samuel and Mary (Howe) Kenyon.
He graduated from Fitchburg, MA High School, class of 1954 and from UNH, class of 1958.
Mr. Kenyon served two years with the US Army in Germany with the 101st. Infantry Division. Before that he was stationed at Ft. Dix, NJ and at Ft. Bragg, NC.
Prior to his retirement he taught at Bow Memorial School, Bow, NH for 29 years and coached drama there for many years.
Mr. Kenyon was also a teaching principal in Gilsum, NH. He was a member of the National Education Association and the New Hampshire Teachers Association.
He is survived by two nieces, Laurie Magruder of Concord, OH and Debra St. John of Toledo, OH; and two grandnephews, Tyler and Evan Jackson. He also leaves two close companions, Thelma Lamarre and Wendell J. Butt, Jr. both of Manchester.
Mr. Kenyon was predeceased by his sister, Mary “Polly” Nolan and his nephew, Richard L. Lehmann.
Mr. Kenyon was very proud of being a Mayflower descendent of Francis Cook.
He enjoyed entertaining with his family and friends for many years.
A memorial service was held Saturday November 10, 2007 at Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St., corner of North Street, Manchester. A reception followed at Belmont Hall, 718 Grove St., corner of Belmont St. Richard’s ashes were strewn near his home, along the Marginal Way, in Ogunquit, ME, which he dearly loved.
