Obituary

Laconia-Charlotte Rachel Toutaint, 91, of 314 Union Avenue died Thursday morning, November 1, 2007 at her home after a brief period of declining health surrounded by her loving family.

Charlotte was the daughter of the late Henry and Marie (Morin) Smith. She was born in Laconia on February 21, 1916 and had been a lifelong resident.

Charlotte was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Laconia, and a member of the Ladies of Sacred Heart. She was also a member of the Ladies Group of The Laconia Rod & Gun Club. Charlotte attended Sacred Heart School. An avid bingo player she often played at the Laconia Senior Center. For many years she was active with the craft group at Sacred Heart Church in which she was known for making afghans.

Charlotte was predeceased by her husband Armand D. Toutaint in 1975; two sisters, Dot Audet, and Germaine Cushing; five brothers, Pete, Oliver, Roland, Jack, and Red Smith; and one great granddaughter, Katherine Shields.

Charlotte is survived by five sons, Richard “Butch” Toutaint and his wife Shirley of Williamsburg, VA, Roger Toutaint and his wife Sandra of Gilmanton, Robert Toutaint of Laconia, Ronald "Peter" Toutaint and his wife Cheryl of Laconia, and Paul Toutaint and his wife Terry of Belmont; four daughters, Carol “Kitty” Simpson of Leland, IL, Claire Shields and her husband Harold of San Antonio, TX, Patricia French and her husband Ivo of Laconia, and Priscilla Bean and her husband Harry of Gilford; one sister Jackie Fecteau-Brasley of Gilford and Florida. She is also survived by 67 grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, great grand nieces and great grand nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday November 5, 2007 at Sacred Heart Church, 291 Union Avenue Laconia at 11:30 a.m. Rev. Adrien R. Longchamps, pastor of the church celebrated her mass. Burial followed in the family lot at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Garfield Street, Laconia. Visiting hours were Sunday, November 4, 2007 from 2:00–4:00 & 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Simoneau-Paquette Memorial, 139 Church Street, Laconia. Family and friends were invited to attend.
