Mary Catherine "Kitty" (Bruce) Saunders of New Bedford died Monday October 29, 2007 at home after a long illness. She was the wife of Herman R. Saunders.
Born in Long Harbour, Placentia Bay, Newfoundland, the daughter of the late Edward F. and Mary A. (Griffiths) Bruce, she resided in New Bedford since 1937.
She was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish.
Prior to retiring in 1960 to bring up her family, Mrs. Saunders was employed as a receptionist for Dr. Harry Bronspiegel.
She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Herman R. Saunders III and his wife Roni of Cranbury, NJ, and Paul J. Saunders and his wife Donna of Dartmouth; four grandchildren, Erin M., Mikaela B., Julie M., and Ryan P. Saunders; three brothers, Edward F. Bruce, Dennis P. Bruce, and Herman R. Bruce, all of Dartmouth; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Marie Celeine Toye, Perpetua M. Murray, and Lila Hogan Trott.
In accordance with her wishes, she was cremated. Her Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 9 AM in Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours are omitted. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 121 Mt. Pleasant St., New Bedford, MA 02740.
