Obituary

Anthony S. J. Tomasello, Age 91, died Monday, October 29, 2007 in Brooksville, Florida.

He was born in Boston, MA on March 2, 1916, to Samuel J. and Josephine F. Tomasello and retired to Crystal River, FL in 1984 after many vacations to the area.

He attended Boston Latin School and was graduated from Harvard College in 1937 with an A.B. degree in Civil Engineering. He was a certified Professional Engineer. He entered the family building business and was responsible for the construction of many roads in the Boston area over a period of 37 years. In 1941, he was graduated from Northeastern University Law School with a J.D. degree and was admitted to the practice of Law in Massachusetts.

He was a very active volunteer in the service of children for over thirty years, and was a member of the Child Welfare League of Executives, Mass. Council of Child Care Agencies, was Chairman if the Bos-Line Council for Children and in 1978 was appointed by Gov. Dukakis to serve as Chairman of the Mass. Statewide Advisory Council for Children.

In 1973, he gave up his road construction business and took on the position of executive Director of the Italian Home for Children in Jamaica Plain, a position he held until his retirement in 1984. During his tenure, he oversaw the transformation of the agency from custodial care to one of the finest residential treatment centers for emotionally disturbed children in MA. He was also the President of the Mt. Washington Bank in South Boston. In 1991, the Citrus County Commissioners appointed to the Chairman of the Children’s Services Task Force of Citrus County, FL.

He was an avid golfer and duplicate bridge player. He was a member of the Seven Rivers Golf and Country Club in Crystal River, FL, was a former member of the Charles River Country Club in Newton, MA, and also of the Norfolk Golf Club in Westwood, MA.

His first wife, Annadith Tomasello predeceased him. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Burnes Tomasello; a son Robert G. Tomasello of Middletown, DE; a daughter Nancy Tomasello Furman of Brooksville, FL; two sisters, Anne Strillchuk of Dedham, MA, and Frances Rowen of Wayland, MA; two grandchildren, Joshua Poulin of Jacksonville, FL and Jessica Johnson of Pittsburgh, PA, and one great grandson, Bodhi Johnson.

Visiting hours in The Robert J. Lawler & Crosby Funeral Home, 1803 Centre St. West Roxbury on Monday November 5, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. Relatives and friends are invited to attended. Interment Holyhood Cemetery.
