New Bedford-Edmund Arruda age 71years, died Thursday October 25, 2007 at home in the company of his loved ones. He was the loving husband of Dorothy (Souza) Arruda of New Bedford. He was the loved father of Rosemary Britto and her husband Romeo of New Bedford, Maryann Gonzalez and her husband David of Westport, and Christine Brodeur. He was the brother of Cecelia Sabino and her husband Manuel of Dartmouth, and the late John Arruda, and Lillian Mello. He was the loving grandfather of 7 Grandsons and a Granddaughter, and a great-granddaughter, and several Nephews, and Nieces.
Mr. Arruda was the son of the late Joseph and Rose (Arruda) Arruda. He was born in New Bedford and was a lifelong resident. He was a foreman for North Atlantic Diesel, and Fairhaven Shipyard until his retirement. He was a member of the Southeastern New England Combine for Racing Pigeons, where he enjoyed for many years his hobby of pigeon racing.
Mr. Arruda’s Funeral is from the Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St. on Monday at 8:00 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 5-8 P.M.
