Shrewsbury—Vahan “Van” Yaylaian, 80, died Thursday, October 25, 2007, in Saint Vincent Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Rose (Kazarian) Yaylaian; his sons Thomas Yaylaian and his wife Joanne of Worcester and Glen Yaylaian of Sterling; his daughter Lori Dobbs of Shrewsbury; his brothers Thomas Yaylaian and his wife Margo and Robert Yaylaian and his wife Pamela all of Grafton; his sister Shahkeh Setian of New Seabury; and his sister-in-law Juanita Kenderian of Sturbridge; 6 grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Van was predeceased by his brother John Kenderian and his sister Mary (Kenderian) Muktarian. He was born in Whitinsville, July 26, 1927, son of Mourad and Akaby (Ajemian) Yaylaian. Van was an owner and treasurer of Keystone Electrical Co. Inc. in Worcester for many years. He spent much of his free time boating and recently took up sailing. He was a member of the Armenian Church of Our Saviour, Knights of Vartan, Worcester Elks, and the Bristol Yacht Club.
The funeral service will be at the Armenian Church of Our Saviour, Monday, October 29, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
