Charles Henry Cassell, Jr., 73, of Tifton died Tuesday, October 23, 2007, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, October 26, 2007, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Jimmy Odum will officiate with burial to follow in Tift Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Robert Gressette, Ben Flournoy, Aaron Messer, Harvey Hatcher, Jimmy Stone and David E. Brannon, Jr. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 25, 2007, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Cassell was born on February 5, 1934 in Lacamp, Louisiana and was the son of Charles Henry Cassell, Sr. and Bernice Meek Cassell, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by one son, Eric Stephen Polley; and two sisters, Fay C. Martin and Carol C. Chaney. He was retired from the Tift County School System, where he taught school for 34 years. He graduated from McNeese College in Lake Charles, Louisiana and received his Masters degree from the University of Georgia in Athens. He also attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Valdosta State University in Valdosta. He was a member of Victory Baptist Church and had lived in Tifton since 1961.
Mr. Cassell is survived by his wife, Mae Jo Spradley Cassell of Tifton; two sons, Ronald Dale Polley of Tifton and Kenneth Eugene Polley of Englewood, Florida; one daughter, Bridgett Cassell Busbin of Fitzgerald; one brother, Tommy L. Cassell of Lake Charles, Louisiana; three grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
