Obituary

Gladys (Mack) Nechtem, 89, a lifelong resident of Chelsea, entered into eternal rest surrounded by her beloved family on October 22, 2007 at the Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home. She was the beloved wife of the late I. Saul Nechtem who entered into rest on August 9, 2007.

Born in Boston, the daughter of the late Albert & Rebecca (Sherman) Mack, Mrs. Nechtem was raised & educated in Chelsea where she graduated from High School. A true leader & the “Ultimate Volunteer”, Mrs Nechtem worked hand-in-hand with her husband from 1947-1970 as directors of Camp Manitou in Oakland, Maine & from 1970-1990 at Camp Bauercrest in Amesbury. Mrs. Nechtem was a life member of Temple Emmanuel in Chelsea, past president of the Temple Emmanuel Sisterhood, & a life member of the Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home. For many years she volunteered in the Dept. of Speech Therapy at Emerson College & served as an Election Warden for the City of Chelsea. She will always be remembered as a loving & generous woman who was always willing to help wherever she was needed. Her legacy will live on through the good deeds that she has done for so many people.

Survivors include her daughter Karen Shone & her husband Ronald of Scituate, son Todd Nechtem & his wife Lynne of Topsfield, & daughter Amy Nechtem of Swampscott; grandchildren, Brad Shone & his wife Jennifer, Robin Shone, Peter Nechtem & his wife Sara, Andrew Nechtem, & Kate Nechtem Clayman. Mrs. Nechtem was the sister of the late Esther Mack Garfield.

Funeral services will be held in the Torf Funeral Chapel, 151 Washington Ave. (Cary Sq) CHELSEA on Thursday, October 25, 2007 at 1:00 PM. Rabbi Robert S. Goldstein of Temple Emanuel of Andover will officiate. Burial will follow in the Temple Emmanuel of Chelsea, Buxton Rd. Danvers. Memorial observance will be held at the home of Todd & Lynne Nechtem, Topsfield until 9 PM on Thursday.
