Obituary

WORCESTER___Aldona A. Jakniunas, 79, of Worcester, died Saturday October 20 in UMASS – Memorial Medical Center, 119 Belmont Street.

Miss Jakniunas is survived by a niece, Ausra Riegle and her husband Charles of Sarasota, Fl., and their three children and five grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews and their families in Lithuania. She was born in Anyksciai, Lithuania, a daughter of Tomas and Anele (Jodelyte) Jakniunas. Aldona was the youngest of nine children, six sisters and three brothers who predeceased her. She has lived here since 1950.

Miss Jakniunas retired from the accounting department of Sweet Life Foods in 1993. She was a member and president of the Lithuanian American Roman Catholic Womens Alliance and was a longtime volunteer and sustainer of the Sisters of the Immaculate Conception in Putnam, Ct. Aldona was also a member of St. Casimir Church and was deeply involved in the work of the parish. She was also a member of Maironis Park Lithuanian Charitable Society and the Lithuanian Arts Circle.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday October 24 from DIRSA-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton Street, with a Mass at 12:00 NOON in St. Casimir Church, 41 Providence Street. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Putnam. Calling hours in the funeral home are Tuesday Oct. 23 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sisters of the Immaculate Conception, 600 Liberty Highway, Putnam, Ct, 06260 or to St. Casimir Church, 41 Providence Street, Worcester, Ma., 01604.
