Obituary

Manuel J. Vincent, Jr., 87, of New Bedford died Saturday October 20, 2007 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness. He was the husband of Blanche S. (Bouchard) Vincent; they had been married for 61 years.

Born in Fairhaven, the son of the late Manuel and Ethel (Harrington) Vincent, he was raised in Fairhaven and Acushnet. He lived in Connecticut for many years before returning to New Bedford 15 years ago.

He was a member of the Acushnet-Wesley United Methodist Church.

Mr. Vincent formerly worked as an electronics sales engineer for various companies for many years.

He was a member and Past Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 2046 in Manchester, CT. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion in Manchester and the Blind Veterans Association of Massachusetts. He was active in scouting for many years.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the European and Pacific Theaters.

Survivors include his wife; four children, William P. Vincent of Manchester, CT, Joanne B. Honer and husband Kenneth of Marlboro, Ronald E. Vincent and wife Nancy of New Britain, CT, and Timothy J. Vincent and wife Roberta of Pittsburgh, PA; three brothers, Richard Vincent and his wife Lillian of California, Robert Vincent and his wife Doris of Wareham, Phillip Vincent and his wife Acellea of Oklahoma; two sisters, Bertha Peirce of Fairhaven and Shirley Battistelli and her husband Leo of Mattapoisett; five grandchildren, Rebekah Honer and her companion Peter Doran, Rachel Johnson and her husband Richard, Natasha Vincent, Theresa Walker and her husband Justin, and Becky Holt; six great-grandchildren, Bailey, Liam, Sean, Kyle, Skyler, and Nathan; his close friends, Patrick and Michelle Sanzo and their sons, Zeb and Nate; and many nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Ronald, Kenneth, Milton, and James Vincent.

His Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 11 AM at the Acushnet-Wesley United Methodist Church, with viewing at Church begining at 10 AM. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 5-8 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Burial will take place at a later date in East Cemetery, Manchester, CT.
