Obituary

Patricia F. Keating, of VA, formerly a long-time resident of Winchester, passed away on October 16th. Born and raised in Somerville, she was the beloved daughter of the late Catherine V. (Conway) and John P. Keating. Pat attended Regis College where she earned her bachelor’s degree, and then subsequently attended Boston College to acquire her Master’s Degree in Classics. She began her teaching career in 1949 as a Latin and French teacher at Somerville High School, where she remained until 1968. She then held a position at Belmont High School until her retirement in 1991. Pat traveled all over Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Her travels enabled her to take slide photography, which she incorporated into her classroom teachings. As a member of St. Mary’s Parish in Winchester, she also volunteered her time to the Ladies Sodality and the Altar Guild there. Pat was the dear sister of Joseph T. Keating of Winchester, Denis A. and his wife Margaret of VA, and the late John J. and Paul E. Keating. She was the sister-in-law of Gertrude Keating of Peabody and Helen Keating of OH. She also leaves behind 8 nieces and nephews and 16 grand-nieces and nephews. Her Funeral will be held from the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St. Winchester on Mon., Oct. 22 @ 9:00 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church at 10AM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours are on Sunday 3-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, donation in Patricia’s memory may be made to the Sisters of St. Joseph, 637 Cambridge St., Brighton, MA 02135. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
