Obituary

Beverly: Raymond J. ‘Pete’ Viel age 89 of Beverly, died Monday, October 15, 2007 at the Essex Park Rehabilitation & Nursing Home in Beverly. He was the husband of the late Margaret C. (Jalbert) Viel with whom he had shared 67 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Albert G. and Laura (Ouellette) Viel. He first worked for the former Pequot Mills of Salem and later was a truck driver for the former Pickering Coal Co. Pete also worked for the former A.C. Lawrence Leathers of Peabody. In 1979 he retired from the Cressey Dockham Co. of Andover. He was a member of local # 42 of the Teamsters Union. He and his wife moved to Beverly from Salem in 1974.
Pete is survived by a daughter, Barbara C. Chouinard and her husband Leo of Beverly, 2 sons: Paul G. Viel of Salem and Robert R. Viel, Master Sgt, US Air Force and his wife Donna of Chicopee, 5 grandchildren: Roger L. & Michael P. Chouinard, Danielle M. Moison, Matthew P. Viel and Robert R. Viel, Jr., 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by 2 sisters: Cecile M. Nicastro of Peabody, Celia Erwin of Salem, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 brothers: Albert O. and George Viel, and 2 sisters: Marie Potorski and Rita Viel.
Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral on Saturday at 8 am from the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St., [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem, followed by his funeral mass in Ste. Anne Church, Jefferson Ave., Salem at 9 am. Visiting hours: Friday 4 to 8 pm. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
