Joseph M. Cannizzaro, a longtime resident of Charlestown, died on Saturday, October 13, 2007 at The North End Nursing Home in Boston after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was 66 years old.
Joe was born in Boston, he grew up in South Boston where he attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from South Boston High School in 1959. He worked for several years at The Boston Naval Shipyard in Charlestown as a shipper and clerk. He later became employed at Brockway/Smith Lumber Company in Charlestown and retired after 20 years as a laborer. Joe was a member of of Teamsters Union Local # 379 and was a inspiration for The Five Star Foundation Inc.
Jos is the beloved 40 year husband and best friend to Susan (McDermott) Cannizzaro. He is the devoted father of Michele and Rosetta Cannizzaro and Beth Vigilante all of Charlestown, Joseph M. Cannizzaro Jr. and his fiance Susan Anderson of Lowell and the late Dorene and her husband Eric Shannon. He is the loving "Papa" to Nicholas, Payton, Haley, Tiffany and Joseph lll. He is the beloved son of the late Thomas and Mildred (Pitty) Cannizzaro. He is the beloved twin brother of Charles Cannizzaro and brother of Mildred Bany, Joan Hally and Jean Holmes.
Joe's Funeral will be held on Wednesday October 17, 2007 at 9 a.m. from the Carr Funeral Home 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Catherine's Church 49 Vine St. Charlestown at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours for Joe will be held on Tuesday October 16, 2007 from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will take place at Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield.
