NEW BEDFORD — Elsie M. (Bento) Niemiec, age 90 years, of South Dartmouth, died Tuesday, October 9, 2007, at St. Luke's Hospital. She was the wife of the late Frank Niemiec Sr.
Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Antone and Germaine (Braga) Bento and lived in this area all of her life. She and her late husband were owners of the former Acushnet Nursing Home and the Country Rest Home.
A communicant of St. Mary's Church in Dartmouth, she was active with the Royal Travelers Group, the Garment Retirees and Friends, the Jolly Seniors of Acushnet and St. Theresa's Seniors.
She is survived by her children, Richard Robidoux of Florida, Margaret Amarante Anderson of So. Dartmouth, Martin F. Niemiec of Mattapoisett, Frank F. Niemiec Jr., of Assonet; her devoted companion, Roland Castonguay of Dartmouth; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Mother of the late Robert Robidoux, she is also survived by brothers and sisters, Priscilla Luis of Va., Antone Bento Jr., of Fla., Gerry Pontes of So. Dartmouth, Esther Acucena of So. Dartmouth, Ann Mason of Conn., and Florence Gracia of Fla. She was the sister of the late Rose Moniz.
Her funeral Mass will take place on Friday at 9:30 A.M. in St. Mary's Church in South Dartmouth with burial in So. Dartmouth Cemetery. Visiting hours are omitted.
