Obituary

BEVERLY - Elsie V. (Lohnes) Aho, 97, wife of Paul O. Aho, of Beverly, formerly of Salem, died Friday afternoon, September 28, 2007 at the Beverly Hospital following a brief illness.

Born in Liverpool, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late James F. & Ella (McLeod) Lohnes.

She came to the United States with her family in 1921 and resided in Salem before moving to Beverly, where she has lived for the past 56 years.

Mrs. Aho was employed at the former Pequot Mills in Salem.

Music was a big part of her life. Her parents as well as several of her siblings were musicians or singers and several played or sang in bands, orchestras or singing groups. Mrs. Aho enjoyed singing and played many instruments including, the organ, guitar, ukelele and steel guitar and continued playing up until her recent illness.
Besides her husband, with whom she shared 64 years of marriage, she is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Linda & Alan Wilkins of Middleton, one grandson, Michael Wilkins of Middleton, and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late James, Perry, William & Gordon Lohnes, Nettie Kane and Gertrude Anketell.

Her funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at 10 am at the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem. Visiting hours are Tuesday, 5 to 7 pm. Burial is in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the charity of one’s choice.
