Obituary

Dracut, MA - Thomas J. O'Malley, age 72 of Dracut, died September 28, 2007, following a lengthy illness. He was surrounded by his family.

He was born in Lowell, January 25, 1935, the son of the late Thomas and Josephine (Wieczenska) O'Malley. He resided in Dracut and was a communicant of the former St. Mary of the Assumption Parish.

Thomas was employed by New England Telephone Company for 34 years, retiring from Verizon. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during peacetime, and was also a member of the IBEW, Telephone Pioneers and the Chelmsford Lodge of Elks.

Thomas is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 47 years Sheila (Murphy) O'Malley, two sons, Thomas and his wife Traci O'Malley of Peterborough, NH and Michael O'Malley of Dracut, three daughters, Lisa and her husband Terry Hanson of Tyngsboro, Susan O'Malley of Pelham, NH, and Sheila and her husband John Cormier of Dracut. He leaves eight grandchildren: Michael and Shannon O'Malley, Erik, Caitlin, and Dillon Hanson, Samuel, Elizabeth, and John Cormier. He also leaves three sisters Marcia Carroll and her companion Gardner Brooks, Gerry and her husband George Lamontagne, and Renie and her husband Paul Bourgeois, as well as three brother-in-laws: William, Robert, and Brian Murphy, and a sister-in-law Bernice Murphy. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and good friends.

Tom was a devoted family man. His wife Sheila, his children, and grandchildren were his greatest treasures.

It being his wishes calling hours have been omitted. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11A.M. at Ste. Marguerite D'Youville Church, Dracut. Interment in St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in his name to St. Vincent DePaul, 42 Franklin Street, # 44, Lawrence, MA 01840.
