Obituary

James F. Jay, 74, of Fairhaven died September 28, 2007 at home after a long illness.
Born in Vernon, Prince Edward Island, Canada, the son of the late Patrick and Susan (Rooney) Jay, step-son of the late Stella (Mooney) Jay, he resided in Brockton for many years before retiring to Fairhaven in the early 1980's.
He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church in Fairhaven.
Mr. Jay was formerly employed as a correctional officer at MCI-Bridgewater and MCI-Plymouth for many years until his retirement.
He served in the U.S. Navy as a radio repairman and machinist during the Korean War. Mr. Jay enjoyed Harley Davidson motorcycles, fishing and boating.
Survivors include his loving companion Maureen Goodwin, and her family, of Hanover; 3 sons, Steven Jay, and his wife Christine, of Taunton, David Jay, and his wife Sandra, of Shady Hills, FL and John Jay of Dorchester; a daughter, Susan Pratt, and her husband Wayne, of Brewster; his former wife Marion (Kearney) Jay of Dennis; 2 sisters, Lorraine McDonald of Prince Edward Island and Camilla Jay of Florida; a sister-in-law, Pearl Jay of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; his late son's companion, Donna Vasquez of Long Island; 5 grandchildren, Jacqueline, Christina, Amanda, Nichole and Anthony; a great-granddaughter Sage; many nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late James F. Jay, Jr. and the brother of the late Harold Jay, Earl Jay and Beatrice McNamee.
His Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, October 8th at 4 PM in St. Joseph's Church, 78 Spring St. Fairhaven. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Southcoast Hospice, 200 Mill Rd., Fairhaven, MA 02719.
