Obituary

O’Shea John Daniel, a former radio, television and newspaper reporter, died early Tuesday morning, Sept. 25, at Holy Name Hospital, Teaneck, after a long illness. A longtime resident of Teaneck, he had just turned 80 years old. He was a member of St. Anastasia Church, Teaneck. Mr. O'Shea was born in New York City, the son of Irish immigrants Daniel and Hanna O'Shea. A member of AFTRA, he had formerly worked for radio stations in New Mexico, Hudson and Utica, N.Y., and the former WJRZ in New Jersey, as well as WCBS radio and WNBC television. He also worked on the copy desk of The Jersey Journal and in the grants office of the University of Medicine and Dentistry. Fond of poetry and fictional writing, he also participated in The Writers Group founded by Henry Hecht in Cresskill until recently. Mr. O'Shea is survived by his wife, Beverly O'Shea, former editor of the Teaneck and Northern Valley Suburbanites; their children, Catherine O'Shea and her husband Brad Freeman, of Bergenfield; Michael O'Shea and his wife Dr. Theresa Jones of St. Louis, Missouri; and Patricia and her husband, John Calandriello of Long Branch, N.J.; his sister Theresa and her husband Joseph McMorrow of New Port Richey, Florida; his four grandchildren, Gavin and Caelyn Freeman and AnnMarie and Caitlyn O'Shea; and three nieces, Theresa, Eileen and Kathleen and their families. Visitation hours at the Volk-Leber Funeral Home, 789 Teaneck Road, will be Friday 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. His funeral Mass will be in St. Anastasia Church at 10 a.m.. Saturday, with private cremation to follow. The family has asked that any memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association.
