Paul M. Nicholas, 74, of Litchfield, NH died September 18, 2007 at Elliot Hospital, Manchester, NH after an 11 month courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Brattleboro, VT on May 19, 1933, he was the son of William and Ida (Spaulding) Nicholas. He grew up in Brattleboro and lived in Burlington, VT and the Boston area for many years before moving to Litchfield in 1970.
During the Korean War he served in the US Air Force.
Mr. Nicholas was a graduate of the Cambridge School of Radio & TV Broadcasting.
He worked for Graybar Electric for 32 years and retired as a branch financial manager. During those years, he formed the Tri-State Credit Association and served as its president for many years.
The family includes his wife of 45 years, Mary G. (Walker) Nicholas of Litchfield, NH; two daughters, Susan K. Nicholas of Manchester, NH and Diane M. Matthews of Seattle, WA; two brothers, William Nicholas of Scotrun, PA and Lyman Nicholas of Brattleboro, VT; many cousins, nieces and nephews.
IN HIS LIFE: The family also includes three grandchildren, Jocelyn, Jonathan and William. He was predeceased by a brother, Donald Nicholas in 2000 and by a sister, Marylyn Bash in 2006. He was a bail commissioner for the Merrimack District Court for many years. In Litchfield he was a selectman and also served on the recreation commission, the planning board, the zoning board and the budget committee. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church where he was a eucharistic minister and served on the school board, the parish council and the social committee. The loves of his life were his family, especially his grandchildren, his church and traveling, including trips to Aruba, Ireland and Greece.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday September 22, 2007 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 9 St. Francis Way, Litchfield, NH. Committal prayers followed at Hillcrest Cemetery, Litchfield, NH.
