Obituary

WORCESTER____Reverend Albin J. Yankauskas, 84, of Worcester died Saturday September 15, 2007 in Radius Health Care, Worcester.

He leaves several nieces, nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews. His brother, Paul Yankauskas, Jr., of California died earlier this year. He was born in Worcester, a son of Paul and Amelija (Karosas) Yankauskas and graduated from Classical High School in 1942. He studied for the priesthood at St. Thomas Seminary, Bloomfield, Ct., The Seminary of Philosophy and The Grand Seminary of St. Sulpice, both in Montreal, and was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Worcester on May 19, 1951 by Bishop John Wright in St. Paul’s Cathedral.

Father was an assistant pastor at parishes in Otter River, Athol, Millbury, Leominster, East Douglas and Worcester. He was appointed administrator of Our Lady of Vilna Church, Worcester from 1966 - 1968. He was then named Pastor of St. Francis Church, Athol and served there until 1971. From 1973 to 1974 he was Pastor of St. Joseph Church, Berlin. He then was named Pastor of St. Aloysius Church in Gilbertville. He retired from active ministry in 1986. Father was a fourth degree member of Bishop O’Reilly Assembly, Knights of Columbus, was a member of Council 116, Knights of Lithuania and had also served as chaplain for the Lithuanian Scouts.

The funeral will be held on Friday September 21, 2007 with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Casimir Church, 41 Providence Street. Most Reverend George E. Rueger will be the principal celebrant. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours for Fr. Yankauskas will be held in St. Casimir Church, 41 Providence Street, on Thursday September 20, 2007 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The wake service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Monsignor Edmond T. Tinsley will preside. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Clergy Benefit Plan, 49 Elm Street, Worcester, MA., 01609. DIRSA-MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton St., is directing funeral arrangements.
