Obituary

GLOUCESTER: Fanny E. (Martin) Jacobson, 92, died Saturday, September 15, 2007 in the Den Mar Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Rockport. She was the wife of the late Frederick Jacobson who died in 1970.
Born in Gloucester on November 21, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Frank A. and Hulda (Hautamaki) Martin. She was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and a graduate of Gloucester High School.
Fanny was employed for many years as a housekeeper for several Gloucester families. She was a lifetime member of the Orthodox Congregational Church in Lanesville, Crossroads Quilters, Gloucester Women’s Club and the former Finnish Singers. In the later years of her life she made baby quilts for underprivileged children all over the world.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Edward A. and Dianne (Pereira) Jacobson of Willimantic, ME, a daughter, Esther Hyde of Roswell, GA, five grandchildren, Charles M. Hyde, III of Chicago, IL, Andrew Hyde of Atlanta, GA, Robin Lay of Ft. Collins, CO, Richard Jacobson of San Dimas, CA and Catherine “Beth” E. Smith of Ball Ground, GA, nine great-grandchildren, a brother and two sisters-in-law, Richard and Jeanne (Vale) Martin and Tellervo Martin all of Gloucester and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by two brothers, Walter and Reino Martin, a sister, Helena Martin and son-in-law, Charles M. Hyde, Jr.
Her memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 27, 2007 in the Orthodox Congregational Church of Lanesville at 2 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Orthodox Congregational Church, 1118 Washington St., Gloucester, MA 01930 or to the Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm Street, Danvers, MA 01923.
