Obituary

AUBURN-Barbara A. (Schwager) Johnson, 73, of 12 Burnap Street died Saturday, Dec. 21 in the UMass Memorial Medical Center-Memorial Campus, Worcester.

She leaves her husband of 47 years, Robert B. Johnson; a son, Jay B. Johnson of Auburn; two daughters, Kimberley A. Holstrom of Auburn and Barbara M. O'Connor of Sutton; a sister, Shirley Schonbeck of Auburn; five granddaughters and nieces and nephews. Her brother, Herman C. Schwager and her sister, Doris Tuetken both predeceased her.

She was born in Auburn, the daughter of the late Herman C. Schwager, Sr. and Anna C. (Bloom) Schwager and lived here all of her life. SHe graduated from Auburn High School and Edgewood Park College, New York.

Mrs. Johnson worked as the secretary for Chief John Boudreau and Chief Robert Murray of the Auburn Fire Department for 10 years before retiring.

She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Auburn and its women's fellowship group. She also served as a deaconess in the church. She was also a member of the Pakachoag Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, the Auburn Grange and the Auburn Historical Society, all in Auburn. She was a past leader of the Camp Fire Girls.

Her funeral will be held on Monday, Dec. 23 at 11 AM in the First Congegational Church, 128 Central Street, Auburn. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn.Calling hours at the Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St., Auburn are Sunday, Dec. 22 from 5-7 PM
