Obituary

Mr. Alan R. Plante, 57, of 8 Hamlin Avenue, Gorham, NH passed away on Friday September 7, 2007 at the Androscoggin Valley Hospital in Berlin, NH. He was born on June 3, 1950 in Adams, MA and was the son of Gerard G. and Marcella R. (Gaines) Plante. He grew up in Adams, MA and moved to Gorham, NH when he married Sharon O’Neill in 1988. He graduated from Berkshire Community College and Franconia College in Franconia, NH. He was a founding member of the Berkshire Search and Rescue Team in Berkshire County, MA, was a founding member of the Presidential Gem and Mineral Society in Gorham, NH, was an avid mineral collector and loved sharing his knowledge of rocks and minerals. Mr. Plante was a contributor to the New International Encyclopedia of Minerals of which he was very proud. He had a varied career, holding many jobs over the years including geology consulting, teaching, carpentry and EMT ambulance attendant. He was the author of the Western Massachusetts Mineral Localities.

Members of the family include his wife Sharon O’Neill of Gorham, NH; 1 sister Marjorie Steinberg of Danbury, CT; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Gerard G. and Marcella R. (Gaines) Plante and a brother David Plante.

There will be no calling hours or services. Interment will be in the Bellevue Cemetery in Adams, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice. The Bryant Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
