METHUEN – George W. O’Connor age 82 died Monday evening September 3, 2007 from complications of pneumonia at Lawrence General Hospital.
Retired Hoover G-Man, as a special agent with the FBI for two decades during the 60’s and 70’s, George experienced the Bureau as it was run by its first director, Edgar Hoover. He specialized in Foreign Counter Intelligence (FCI) and spent much of his career in Manhattan during the heart of the Cold War. Having been recognized multiple times for his efforts on espionage matters George retired in 1975 from the Boston Office. He was a lifelong public servant serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He attended St. Anslems College and the New England School of Law. After his retirement he volunteered for numerous organizatons, including Lazarus House, The Samaritans, Elder Services and Habitat for Humanity.
The widower of Catherine (O’Rourke) O’Connor, who was the love of his life, married 51 years until her death in 2001, he leaves his six children, Bill and Jane O’Connor of Annapolis, MD, Jim and Terry O’Connor of Severna Park, MD, Tom and Mary O”Connor of Bay Shore, NY, Peg and Harry Glover of Plaistow, NH, Bud and Carolyn O’Connor of Washington Grove, MD, and John and his wife Heidi O’Connor of Reading, MA.
ARRANGEMENT: In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Lazarus House 260 Park St. Lawrence, MA 01841 or to the Alzheimers Association 311 Arsenal St. Watertown, MA 02472. Family and friends may call on Friday 4:00p.m. – 8:00p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 9:00a.m. at St. Monica’s Church in Methuen, MA. Burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence, MA.
