Pierina (Franciosa) Volpe, of Andover, formerly of the North End and Italy, died Thursday at Lawrence General Hospital. She was 89.
Pierina was born and raised in Pettorino Sul Gizio, Abruzzi, Italy, the daughter of the late Antonio and the late Angela (DiMascio) Fraciosa. She and her family came to America in 1963 and settled in Boston’s North End were she lived untill recently joining her family in Andover. Pierina worked as a fine finish seamstress in several prominent Boston clothing stores and manufacturing houses. She was a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. She was a dedicated wife and mother and enjoyed a special relationship with her grandchildren.
She was the beloved wife of the late Pasquale Volpe. She was a devoted mother to Elio Volpe and his wife Dora of Andover and the late Angelo Volpe. She was a loving grandmother to Noreen Volpe, Lori Volpe and her fiancé Jeff Turgeon, and James Volpe. She was a dear sister to Guerino Franciosa of Italy the late Gennaro Franciosa, Felicita Federico, Raffaele Franciosa, and Assunta DiCenso.
Her funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St. Medford, Tuesday at 8:45 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Leonard Church, Hanover St., Boston at 9:45 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with the family Monday 4 thru 8. Services will conclude with entombment at St. Michael Mausoleum.
