Obituary

WORCESTER___Franciszek “Frank” Kurkiewicz, 87, of Worcester, died Wednesday August 29, 2007 in the Rose Monahan Hospice Residence, 10 Judith Road.

He leaves his wife of 58 years, Wanda (Paluch) Kurkiewicz, his children, Jozef Kurkiewicz and his wife Halina of Sutton; John Kurkiewicz and his wife Janice of Texas; Teresa Stone and her husband Cecil of Grafton; William Kurkiewicz of Millbury; Stanley Kurkiewicz and his wife Patricia of Worcester; Mary Kurkiewicz of Southbridge; Annette Sangkhum and her husband Akrapon of Shrewsbury; Christine D’Alessandro and her husband James of Shrewsbury and Barbara Kurkiewicz of Worcester; 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was born in Poland, a son of Leon and Jozefina Kurkiewicz and has lived here since 1951.

Mr. Kurkiewicz was a leather trim worker and machinist 19 years for E.W. Parks Co. He retired several years ago. Previously he was a butcher for Snyder Dressed Beef Co.

Frank was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church and the Polish National Alliance. He enjoyed playing games, gardening and spending time with his family.

During World War II he was taken from Poland and placed under forced labor in work camps in Germany until the American liberation. He immigrated with his family to this country in 1951.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday September 4 from HENRY – DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward Street, with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward Street. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours in the funeral home are Monday September 3 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VNA Care Network – Hospice, 120 Thomas Street, Worcester, Ma., 01608.
