New Bedford – Fernando Manuel Arruda Sr., age 64 years, passed away August 29, 2007 at St Lukes Hospital after a long Illness. He was the husband of Maria Manuela (Estevao) Arruda of New Bedford. The father of Fernando Arruda Jr and his wife Elvira, Joao F. Arruda and his wife Niveria of New Bedford, Helder J. Arruda and his wife Rhonda of Fairhaven, Jesse E. Arruda of New Bedford, Maria G. Arruda of Virginia, Ana P. Pacheco and her husband Carlos of New Bedford, Teresa D. Littel and her husband Robert of Fairhaven, Lucia M. Couto and her husband Jose of Dartmouth and Sonia E. Soares and her husband Paulo of New Bedford. He was survived by 1 brother Jose Arruda of Fairhaven amd 1 sister Maria Camara of New Bedford. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Antonio Arruda.
Mr. Arruda was born in Ribeira Grande, St Michael, Azores and has lived in New Bedford for the past 31 Yrs. He was the son of the lateMaria DeLurdes and Joao Mateus Arruda. Mr. Arruda worked as a landscaper for G. Bourne Knowles.
His Funeral will be Saturday at 8:00 A.M at Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St., with a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Visiting hours are Friday from 6 to 9 P.M. Burial will follow at St John Cemetery.
