Obit Elizabeth A. Quinn
Manchester– Elizabeth Ann (Belanger) Quinn, 88 died August 25, 2007 resulting from injuries sustained from a fall.
She was born in Ashland, NH on April 30, 1919 the daughter of Almeda J. and Cora Anna (Smith) Belanger and had been a resident of Manchester most of her life.
She was a graduate of Manchester High School West, the class of 1937 A. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart School of Nursing. She had worked at the Sacred Heart Hospital from 1959 to 1966, and as a industrial nurse at Arms Textile from 1966 to 1968 and at Sylvania as an industrial nurse from 1968 to her retirement in 1980.
She served in the US Army during WWII as a 1st Lieutenant , Nurse Corps 45th Field Hospital. She was an veteran of the Normandy Invasion having landed on Utah Beach D-Day plus 4. She was a member of the Henry J. Sweeney Post #2 and was recently awarded the Gold Life Membership Card.
She held membership in the Catholic Nurses Association, Industrial Nurses Association, S. Main St. Seniors, Bedford Seniors, Dorr’s Pond Preservation Society, Association-Canado-Americaine.
She was awarded the Meritorious Unit Emblem, the European Campaign Medal, the Bronze Star, Silver Star and the Victory Medal of WWII.
In June of 2004 she was the guest of the French Government on the 60th anniversary of the Normandy Invasion, where she was awarded the French Legion of Honor the most prestigious award issued by the Government of France.
She was inducted in the Manchester High School West Hall of Fame, May 13, 2006.
She loved traveling, golf, gardening, knitting, sewing and volunteering at the Red Cross.
She was married to Charles J. Quinn on October 12, 1946, who predeceased her on January 11, 2005, and her daughter Nancy Clough who died on April 11, 1996.
Family members include 3 daughters Patricia L. Molan, of Manchester, Dorothy M. Quinn, of Dover, Kathleen E. Quinn, of Manchester, 3 sons, Richard K. Quinn, of Lake Elsinore CA, Thomas J. Quinn, of Manchester, Stephen E. Quinn, of Henniker, 11 grandchildren, 2 greatgrandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services: Calling hours will be on Wednesday from 3 to 7 pm at J.N. Boufford & Sons Funeral Home 110 Bridge St. Manchester. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 am in St. Catherine Church, corner of Webster and Hemlock Sts.. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford.
