Christine Griffin Walker, 91, of Enigma died Thursday, October 13, 2005, at Beverly Health Care. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 15, 2005, at Enigma Baptist Church. Rev. Pete Jones will officiate with burial to follow in Enigma Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Johnny Walker, Derrick Walker, Rickey Gibbs, Larry Crumley, Ricky Walker and Corey Gibbs. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Akins, Bill Cranford, Maurice McMillan, Jule Able, Jerry Turner, Harold Allen Jr. and Bobby Metts. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 14, 2005, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mrs. Walker was born on February 14, 1914 in Berrien County and was the daughter of Obie Griffin and Mary Luke Griffin, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Alvin Walker, who died on September 5, 1986; three brothers, George Griffin, Tombs Griffin and J. P. Griffin; three sisters, Ema Roberts, Maggie Harper and Betty Harper; and one grandchild, Alvin Dickson Walker. She was a member of Enigma Baptist Church, where she was also a deaconess. In her younger years, she boarded school teachers and substitute teachers and cooked for the public before she and Mr. Walker opened Walker's Grocery Store on Main Street in Enigma. She was always a person who showed love and concern for everyone, everywhere.
Mrs. Walker is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Johnnie Darwin and Dawn Dixon Walker of Enigma; three grandchildren, Melinda Deanna Gibbs and her husband, Rickey, of Adel, Johnny D. Walker, Jr. and his wife, Melissa, of Enigma, and Paul Derrick Walker of Enigma; and four great grandchildren, Corey Gibbs of Adel, Tara Gibbs of Adel, Kristy Walker of Enigma and Gage Walker of Enigma.
