Mr. O'Connell grew up in Charlestown and served in the Merchant Marines and then in the United States Navy during W.W.II. He worked for the City of Boston as a steam engineer and retired after 40 years. His son and daughter remember him as a generous man who was proud of his Irish heritage. He was an easy going man with traditional old fashion values, a true gentleman who always had a smile on his face. Mr. O'Connell enjoyed walking along the beach and reading. More importantly, his family was his true pride and joy and he enjoyed spending his time with all of them. He will be sadly missed by his family and all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
