Eva (Yvonne) Laforge Valcourt, Eva, also know an Yvonne, the beloved wife of the late Levite Valcourt passed away Saturday with family by her side. She was 97. She is survived by three sisters, Jean Jalbert of Peabody Massachusetts, Evangeline Levesque and Cecile Michaud both of Grand Falls, New Brunswick, Canada, and many generations of nieces and nephews. She was born in New Brunswick, Canada on July 25, 1910. She was the 4th of 13 children. She was dearly loved and admired by all her siblings. She moved to Massachusetts in 1937 where she met the love of her life. She and Levite were married on September 4, 1939. They resided in Lawrence, Massachusetts for over 50 years. She was know as a wonderfully talented seamstress, an avid knitter, a fun loving card player, an engaging story teller, but mostly a loving matriarch to her extended family. She was an active member of the Sacred Heart Church in Lawrence, MA.
She retired from William Barry Industries where she was a seamstress. She enjoyed many years of retirement with her husband before his death in December 1995. She then moved to Limestone, Maine to be close to her sisters. In Maine she made new friendships, was an active member of the Sisters of Saint Anne and was also a respected and valued member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program where she knitted hundreds of pairs of mittens.
After suffering a fall in March 2006 she gave up her apartment at the age of 95 and took up a new residence at the Salem Haven Nursing Home in Salem, New Hampshire, so that she could be closer to her youngest brothers’ family. She was happy at Salem Haven where she enjoyed Bingo, exercise classes, the company of other residence and the ministry and singing of Reverend Carver.
She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. She touched so many lives and has left us with the fondest of memories.
