Hilliard Griffin Jones, 85, of Coffeeville, MS, passed away in the Yalobusha General Hospital on Friday, August 17, 2007. He was a retired heavy duty equipment operator and was a member of Elam Baptist church. The son of William Lee and Velma Collins Jones, he served his country during WWII with the United States Air Force.
The family will receive friends at Seven Oaks Funeral Home on Sunday evening, August 19, 2007 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be Monday, August 20, 2007 at Elam Baptist Church, Coffeeville, MS at 2:00 PM with Brother Don Thornberg officiating. Burial will follow in Elam Cemetery with Billy Joe Jones, Bobby Jones, E. O. Boyle, Jr., Oliver Greenhaw, Jim Hertel and Luke Nolan serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Beckwith, Malcom Shaw, Danny Lemmon, Glen Calder and Smiley Arrington II.
Mr. Jones is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Odis Jean Jones of Coffeeville, MS; one son, Terry L. Jones and wife Patricia of Coffeeville, MS; 5 grandchildren, Kimberly Jones, Brian Jones, Shannon Jones, Cody Lee Jones and Scott Tribble; 3 great-grandchildren, Ali Jones, Megan Jones and Allen Tribble; one sister, Maggie Boyle of Water Valley, MS.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Lee and Velma Collins Jones; one son, Gerry Griffin Jones; 5 brothers, Leon, Edward, Frank, Theo and Bill Jones and one sister, Mary Burke.
