Obituary

WORCESTER-Sophie (Sgouros) Kaltsas, 85, of Worcester, died Tuesday, August 14th in her home. Her husband of 50 years, James H. Kaltsas died in 1996. She leaves a son, Dr. Harvey J. Kaltsas; 2 daughters, Cynthia Kaltsas and Christine, wife of Dr. James Martin all of Sarasota, FL; 6 grandchildren, James Kaltsas, Janica wife of Dr. Trent Peppard all of Portland, ME, Arian Kaltsas, James Kyriakakos and Ashley Martin all of Sarasota, FL, and Nicolas Kyriakakos of Paradise Valley, AZ; a great grandson, Alex Peppard of Portland, ME. A brother Constantine Sgouros predeceased her.

She was born in Haverhill the daughter of Vasilios and Olympia (Kakides) Sgouros, attended Clark University and was a graduate of the Bryant College School of Business. Mrs. Kaltsas was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, its Ladies Philoptochos, St. Spyridon Guild, the Daughters of Penelope, the Worcester Art Museum, Opera Worcester, and hosted students for the International Student Exchange Program.

The funeral is Saturday, August 18th with a service at 10:00 AM in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday, August 17th from 5:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the UMass Memorial Foundation, Hospice Program, P. O. Box 2795, Worcester, MA 01613-9938 or St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street, Worcester, MA 01609. O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue is directing arrangements.
