PRISCILLA BECK
LEDYARD: Priscilla Kay Beck, 77, died at her home on August 11th from cardiac and respiratory failure related to her long-term affliction with progressive multiple sclerosis.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Donald Beck; her three children, Janice B. Brown, Peter A. Beck and Paul W. Beck; one granddaughter and two grandsons.
She was predeceased by her son Matthew E. Beck, her parents Paul and Ruth Kay and her sister Jane Post Williams.
Mrs. Beck was born in Cambridge, MA on April 11, 1930 but spent most of her pre-adult life in Harrison, NY. After graduation from Harrison High School, she attended Middlebury College, VT majoring in biology, and received her bachelor’s degree, class of 1952. Prior to and after her marriage in 1953 she was employed as a certified Medical Technician (ASCP) at United Hospital, Port Chester, NY, retiring from that position concomitant with the birth of her first child in 1956.
She was a member of the Ledyard Garden Club since its inception and an active participant in the club’s operations at the Ledyard Fair Flower Show, restoration of the gardens at the Nathan Lester House, and a supplier and participant in the club’s annual plant sale. She was a member of the American Begonia Society, Nutmeg Branch an attended many flower shows and conventions. Her hobbies included gardening and plant propagation and she was an avid and accomplished painter in oils. She traveled extensively throughout the United States with her family enjoying the wondrous beauty of our national parks.
There are no visiting hours and the burial service will be private for family members.
