Obituary

Edgar Towne, Jr., 87, of Westport, died Saturday, August 11, 2007, after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Margaret (Dobbie) Towne.

He was born in Fall River, son of the late Edgar Towne, Sr. and the late Estelle (Thornton) Towne, and had resided in Natick, MA for 30 years prior to moving to Westport in 1986. A veteran of WWII, he served his country as a 1st Lieutenant Infantry Rifle Platoon Leader in the 3rd Army in Europe. He received 3 Battle Stars and was awarded and the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious achievement in ground operations. Prior to his retirement in 1985, he was a quality control manager for Dennison Manufacturing Company of Framingham, MA.

Mr. Towne was a member of the Westport Point United Methodist Church and was a former member of the First Baptist Church of Natick, MA. He was a 50 year member of the Masons Grand Lodge of Massachusetts. An active member in the local community, Mr. Towne was the former chairman of the Westport Personnel Board, a member of the R.O.M.E.O.S. of Westport, the Over the Hill Gang of Fall River, and the Friends of Westport Council on Aging. He also volunteered for 10 years at the Fall River Community Soup Kitchen.

He is survived by 2 daughters: Alison Cadillac of W. Yarmouth and Tina McLean of Manchester, NH and 2 grandchildren: Ian Cadillac and his wife Leah, and Ben Cadillac and his girlfriend Jamie Lubetkin.

Celebration of his life service to which relatives and friends are invited will be Tuesday, August 14, 2007 at the Westport Point United Methodist Church at 7:00 P.M

Calling hours 4 - 6 P.M. Tuesday at the Potter Funeral Home.

Interment will be private.
