Obituary

LOWELL—Irma E. (Durgin) Tessier, 91, a lifelong resident of Lowell, died Thursday December 5th, at Saints Memorial Medical Center. She was the wife of the late Ernest A. Tessier, who died in 1974.

She was born in Lowell, on January 16, 1911, a daughter of the late Bertrand and Grace (Dodge) Durgin, and was educated in Lowell schools.

For many years, Mrs. Tessier worked as an inspector in the silk mills in the area. She then was a volunteer aide at both the Tewksbury Hospital and the Glenwood Nursing Home. Mrs. Tessier was a member of St. Anne’s Episcopal Church and the St. Elizabeth Guild of the Church. She was also a member of the Spindle City Senior Citizen Group and the S.A.G.E. Group at the Salvation Army.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law: Shirley and Philip Swain, of Norwood; a son and daughter-in-law: Ernest A. and Sally Tessier, of Hudson, NH; three grandchildren: Philip, David and Carol Swain; and four great-grandchildren.

She was the sister of the late Bertrand, Alfred, Ethel and Harold Durgin, Mildred Stoessel and Grace Healy.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday morning, January 11th, at 11 AM at ST. ANNE’S EPISCOPAL CHURCH, Merrimack Street. Relatives and friends are invited. Donations in her memory may be made to the Memorial Fund of St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, 8 Kirk Street, Lowell, MA 01852.
