Obituary

John J. “Mac” McLaughlin, of Medford, died Monday at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital. He was 94.

Raised in Charlestown, he was the son of the late Jeremiah and the late Rose (Leary) McLaughlin. John was an Army veteran of World War II. He lived in Medford since his marriage 51 years ago. Mac worked for the state DPW in his earlier years and was one of the last operators of the Craddock Bridge Locks. He then worked for the US Post Office for 25 years. A member of Medford’s VFW Post 45, John was also a member of Charlestown Old School Boy’s Assoc. John was dedicated to his family and loved them above all. He enjoyed their company especially at their summer home in Sandown, NH. John was also a fan of Boston sports teams especially the Red Sox and Patriots.

He was the beloved husband of Ellen (Heenan) Mc Laughlin with whom he shared 51 years of marriage. He was the father of John of Boston, Kevin and his wife Paula of Malden, Jim of North Andover, Stephen of Lynnfield and Therese Lanzilli and her husband Al of Stoneham. He was a loving grandfather to Colleen, Jennifer, Erin, Kevin, Jr., Victoria, Cameron and Christopher. He was the brother of the late Rose Stevens, Francis and Hugh McLaughlin.

His Funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, with a Funeral Mass celebrated at 10 AM in St. Raphael Church on Friday morning. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Family and friends may call Thursday from 4 – 8pm.
