Alma “Eva” (Gallant) Thompson, 105, of Norton formerly of Plainville and Mansfield died on Monday July 30, 2007 at the Epoch Senior Healthcare Center in Norton. She was the beloved wife of the late Samuel F. Thompson, Sr. who passed away in 1967.
Born in Woodstock, Prince Edward Island, Canada on June 29, 1902 she was a loving daughter of the late Francis and Catherine (Gallant) Gallant.
She grew up and was educated in Prince Edward Island. She moved to the United States in 1927, first settling in Lowell. She later lived in Dorchester, Randolph, Plainville and in Mansfield.
Mrs. Thompson was a retired Inspector for the Gillette Co. in Boston having worked there for 20 years prior to retiring in 1967.
A former communicant of St. Mary’s church in Mansfield, Eva’s life was centered round her devoted family. She especially enjoyed family trips and gatherings. She had lived in Norton for the past 4 ½ years.
She was the dear mother of Samuel F. Thompson and his wife Ellen of Norton, with whom she made her home, James B. Thompson and his wife Eleanor of Bullhead City, Arizona the late Sandra Lessard who died in 2001 and the late Ronald G. Thompson, who was the first person to die accidentally in Massachusetts during the blizzard of 1978. Also survived by her cherished grandchildren; Mark Thompson of Norton, Samuel Thompson, Jr. and his wife Lori of Mansfield, Michael Thompson of North Attleboro, Sherri Cammarn and her husband Dan of Ohio, Leo Lessard of Nevada, James Thompson and his wife Kris, Kim Rapisara and her husband Paul, Tami Thompson and Michelle Thompson Fullin all of Arizona. Also surviving are 21great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.
Her funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Friday August 3rd at 9:00 A.M. from the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, South Worcester St. Norton. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday August 2nd from 6-8 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home.
