WORCESTER-Richard D. McKeon, 74, of 65 Lake Avenue and Ft. Myers, FL., formerly of 12 Atwater Street died Saturday, December 7th in St. Vincent Hospital after a long illness. He leaves his wife of 50 years, Barbara J. (Roberts) McKeon; 2 sons, Scott M. McKeon of Oxford and Richard D. McKeon, Jr. of Sturbridge; a daughter, Gayle Fitzgerald of Ft. Myers, FL; 2 sisters, Bernice Murphy of Worcester and Mary “Betty” Oatley of Paxton; 9 grandchildren and several nephews and nieces.
He was born in Worcester the son of Bernard and Mildred (MacDonald) McKeon. He graduated from Classical High School and was a WWII U.S. Marine Corp. veteran. Mr. McKeon had been a letter carrier in the Tatnuck Square area for many years before retiring. He was a lifelong member of Christ the King Church. Mr. McKeon was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, and loved his family and friends.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, December 11th from O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Christ the King Church, 1052 Pleasant Street. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are Tuesday, December 10th from 5:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home.
