Virginia L. Nash
...active volunteer in Amesbury, formerly of Tewksbury; 76
AMESBURY - Virginia L. (McCartney) Nash, 76, died Tuesday morning, July 24, at her home in
Amesbury, MA after a brief illness. She was born February 13, 1931 in Lowell, Massachusetts to
the late Charles and Dorothy (McSorley) McCartney. She was married for 53 years to the late
Robert E Nash. She was born in Lowell and attended Lowell schools. After marrying she lived in
Tewksbury for over twenty years before moving to Amesbury in 1975. She spent many years
doing volunteer work with organizations serving women and children. Additionally, she opened
her home to battered women for several years.
Virginia enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her family and friends, who will miss her
warmth, great sense of humor and inviting nature. Her other great love was traveling. With her
husband, Virginia traveled to several exotic locations such as Africa and New Zealand, as well as
all over the United States. Wherever she went she made friends, and her home was always
bustling with activity and friends visiting. Virginia could never do enough for people, whether it
be entertaining people at her home, gathering goods for donations, or volunteering. Her easy
laugh, giving nature, and especially her stories will be sorely missed.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy Ann and James Lightfoot of Tewksbury,
three sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce Nash and Annmarie O’Neill of Weymouth, Brian and Lisa
(Roberto) Nash of East Kingston, NH and Kevin and Sandra (Noonan) Nash of Amesbury; eight
grandchildren, Daniel and Kara Nash of Weymouth, Jennie Welch and her husband Tyler of
Tewksbury, Jamie Lightfoot of Newton, Hunter and Travis Nash of East Kingston, NH, Anna and
