TEWKSBURY - Dorothy M. (Manning) Newton, age 60, died Saturday morning , Dec. 7, atSaints Memorial Medical Center in Lowell after a 4 month battle with cancer. She was thebeloved wife of Richard H. Newton, with whom she had celebrated a 24th wedding anniversarythis past April 14.
She was born in South Boston, June 29, 1942, and raised by her grandmother, the late IrmaManning. She lived on L Street in South Boston, until moving to Tewksbury in 1978.
She will be remembered as having devoted her life to her family.
Besides her husband, she is survived by five loving children; John “Jack” and his wife Karen(Walsh) Schmal of Wakefield, James V. Schmal of Wakefield, Dee Schmal of Lowell, LoriSchmal of Tewksbury, Richard “Ricky” Sears of Middleboro, 6 adoring grandchildren; Christine,Tricia, Alysandra, and Kelly Ann Schmal, Jessica D’Amico and Tanya Nordstrom, one greatgrandson; Anthony D’Amico, and several cousins including William Garland of Fla., Kathleen(Garland) Zangla of Quincy, and Pat (Garland) Foley of Dorchester.
She was also mother of the late Robert Schmal who died in 1981.
Her funeral was held Wednesday, Dec. 11, at Cedar GroveCemetery, Dorchester.
