Obituary

Steven H. Ostis, 86, former District Chief of the Boston Fire Department, died Wednesday, July 18 at the Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. He was the husband of 44 years of the late Margaret J. (Sullivan) Ostis. Born in Boston, he was raised in Hyde Park and was a graduate of both Hyde Park High School and the Bentley School of Accounting. He was a World War II Veteran of the US Navy. Mr. Ostis worked as a firefighter for the City of Boston for over 30 years, rising to the rank of District Chief. He retired at age 56. Mr. Ostis was a member of the International Association of Firefighters, the VFW in Avon and the St. Florian Society in Dorchester. In his free time, he enjoyed golfing and playing cards.

He is survived by his three stepsons, Deacon Eugene V. Stenstrom and his wife Carol of Plymouth, John V. Stenstrom and his wife Dorothy of Stoughton and Robert E. Stenstrom and his wife Kathleen of Roslindale. He was the brother of the late Edna Lashoto. He was the uncle of Paul Lashoto and his wife Patricia of Foxboro, Janice Cardarelli and her husband Dan of Medfield and Paul Lashoto and his wife Mary Beth of NC. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 28 greatgrandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

A Funeral Mass will be held in the St. Mary’s Church, 313 Court St., Plymouth on Saturday, July 21 at 10 AM. Visiting Hours will be held prior to the Mass from 8:45 AM. Donations in Steve’s name may be made to the Chapel of Our Savior, Friars of Atonement, 475 Westgate Dr., Brockton, 02301. Burial will be private.
