Richard H. Newton
...Retired from Tewksbury School System, 74
TEWKSBURY - Richard H. Newton, age 74, died in his home July 13,
surrounded by family and friends after a lengthy illness. He was the
beloved husband of the late Dorothy Newton who died December 7,
2002.
He was born in Boston on November 24, 1932, a son of the late Herbert
Newton and the late Alice (Johnson) Newton.
During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Navy.
He owned “Dick’s Canteen” serving the University Hospital area in
Boston, before becoming a custodian at Tewksbury High School, from
where he retired in 2006 after 16 years of service.
He loved his loyal pet dog “Busta Brown” , supported the MSPCA in
Methuen, and enjoyed model ship building.
He is survived by his stepchildren Dorothy “Dee” Schmal of Lowell,
John “Jack” Schmal of Wakefield, James Schmal of N.C., Lori Schmal
of Lowell, and Richard “Ricky” Sears of Middleboro; his children,
Marie Newton and Allen Newton of Tewksbury; six grandchildren and
two great grandchildren.
He was also the stepfather of the late Robert Schmal.
NEWTON - Richard H., 74, of Tewksbury, at his request all services
