Obituary

STONINGTON- William Henry Trant Jr., age 93, of 45 Circle Drive, Arlington Acres, Stonington, died Wednesday evening at Mary Elizabeth Nursing Center with his wife by his side.

Bill was born in Mystic on April 9, 1909 one of eight children to William Trant Sr. and Ellen (Connery) Trant. Raised in Mystic, he attended local schools. He later entered the US Army, serving with the 77th division in the Phillipines during World War II. He was awarded the Bronze Star.

He was employed for 44 years at Sonoco Products in Mystic before retireing as foreman in 1970.

He was a life member of the Hugo Simonelli Post VFW in Mystic and the B.F. Hoxsie Engine Co. where he was awarded his 75year pin. He was also a member of the Social Society Frohsinn, the Portuguese Holy Ghost Society and the American Legion.

Bill was married to Lois E. (Gardner) Trant in Hartford on June 28, 1930. He and his wife enjoyed 72 years together.

In addition to his wife, Bill leaves a brother, James P. Trant and a sister, Margaret Moniz, both of Mystic, nieces and nephews. He was predecased by his siblings, John, Edward, Charles, and Jeremiah Trant and Mary Wallace.

SERVICE SUMMARY-

Largely attended funeral services were held at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Monday, December 9th. Rev. Charles A. McGrail, pastor of St. Patrick Church, Mystic officiated, calling to mind Bill and Lois's 72 years of marriage. Following father's words at St. Patrick Cemetery, the US Army rendered military honors and Bill's folded flag was presented to his brother James, at Mrs. Trant's request. Delegations representing the BF Hoxie Engine Co., the VFW, Portuguese Holy Ghost Society, and the German Club also attended the service.
