Obituary

Mr. Algerome (Also known as Butch) Pitts was born on October 5, 1949 to Mrs. Bertha Youngblood and the late Lammar Derico. Butch accepted Christ at an early age at the Greater Mt. Zion Baptist church under the pastorship of Reverend T. C. Spann in Detroit, Michigan. Butch attended the public schools of Detroit and shortly thereafter relocated to New York, where he attended Old Westbury College and Cornell University. Many that know him called him “the inventor.” He has always exemplified a quest for knowledge. His interests included a multiplicity of subjects; such as science, electronics, technology, history and politics. To his credit – he has five patents.

He was loved by many. Algerome leaves to mourn his mother, Mrs. Bertha Youngblood; two sisters: Velma Pitts of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Beverly Batten of Huntsville, Alabama; a sister-in-law, Cornelia Smith Hamlet; one nephew, Andrew Pitts of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; one niece, Shana Smith of Huntsville, Alabama; one great niece, Neveah of Huntsville, Alabama; two uncles: Jimmie Lee Pitts of Huntsville, Alabama; and Calloway Pitts of Detroit, Michigan two special cousins: Geraldine Johnson of Long Island, New York and Agurtha Turner of Detroit, Michigan; a special friend, Theresa Warren of Newark, New Jersey and a host of cousins and friends.


Funeral services for Mr. Pitts will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday from the Nelms Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 on Friday from the funeral home.

Interment will be in Valley View Memorial Gardens.
