Obituary

As the sun’s rays shone brightly on the morning of July 7, 2007, the life of Morgan Moon slipped quietly from the arms of his loving family into those of his Heavenly Father for eternal peace and rest. There was also a joyous reunion with his eldest daughter, Melissa Marian Moon; his brother, Dr. Allen J. Moon; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd J. Moon; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Robert Moon and the Rev. L. B. Allen, who awaited him there.

His surviving family members are his very dear wife, Cynthia Kennedy Moon; his adult children, Catherine Moon Maraman and her husband, Herb, of Warner Robins, Claire Christine Moon of Xenia, Ohio, and his son, Floyd J. Moon II of Tifton; his grandchildren, Harmon, Jace, and Helen Melissa Maraman. Also surviving are his siblings, Floyd B. Moon of Adel, Marian Moon Harrod of Marietta, and Garland Moon of Vidalia.

Born August 19, 1946, Mr. Moon was a life-long resident of Tift County. As a youth, he was involved in activities of the First Baptist Church, recreational and school baseball, and working on the family farm. After completing his education at Norman Park Junior College and the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy, Mr. Moon returned to Rainer’s Pharmacy in Tifton to begin his professional pharmacy career in 1968. After working as a partner with Mr. Buddy Rainer for 17 years, he and his wife acquired the pharmacy and built what is now known as Moon’s Pharmacy. Serving his patients consistently over the past 39 years, Morgan came to be known as a source of strength and information that could be relied upon. He will be remembered as an anchor and advocate for the health and well-being of each of his patients.

As a member of First Baptist Church, he taught Sunday School, served faithfully as an active deacon, and participated on various committees. Morgan was known as a man of integrity, who was a devoted husband and father. He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, altruism, and his great sense of commitment and respect for the community.

Professionally, he was an active member of the Georgia Pharmacy Association, Academy of Independent Pharmacy, National Community Pharmacy Association and the Board of Hospice of Tiftarea.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 10, 2007, at 4:00 p.m. in the First Baptist Church Sanctuary in Tifton. Drs. Wayne Roe and W. Ches Smith III will officiate. Pallbearers will be Dennis Bloodworth, Earl Branch, Kenny Brownlee, Ron Evans, Robert Hammond, Lynn Kelley, Tommy Lindsey, Jackson Rainer and Grady Thompson. The Deacons of First Baptist Church and the Kurios Christos Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Benevolence Fund, Hospice of Tiftarea or the American Cancer Society.
