Obituary

Jack Crompton, 65, of New Bedford died unexpectedly July 2, 2007.
He was the husband of Marie (Bellotti) Crompton, with whom he shared 41 years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Edith (Hall) Crompton-Niemiec and Jack Crompton, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
Mr. Crompton was employed with Bay State Window and Door in New Bedford and was formerly employed as a detective sergeant with the New Bedford Police Department for 20 years until retirement. He was a substitute teacher with the New Bedford School System. Mr. Crompton was the golf coach at New Bedford High School for 17 years. In 2001, he was voted Division 1 high school coach of the year by the Boston Globe. He was presently appointed to the New Bedford Recreation Committee.
Mr. Crompton was a graduate of New Bedford Vocational High School and Roger Williams University and a member of the New Bedford Police Union. He was an avid golfer and member of the Whaling City Golf Course. Mr. Crompton enjoyed spending time with his children and especially with his grandchildren, gardening and coaching youth basketball.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Craig Crompton, and his wife Kari, of New Bedford; a daughter, Kim M. Heydt of New Bedford; a brother, Robert Crompton, and his wife Rose, of New Bedford; six grandchildren, Courtney Crompton, Cailyn Crompton, Nolin Heydt, Jianna Heydt, Logan Heydt and C.J. Crompton; his mother-in-law, Mary Bellotti of New Bedford; a sister-in-law, Susan Silva, and her husband Butch, of Rochester; and four nieces.
He was the step-son of the late Edmund Niemiec.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford Friday, July 6th at 9 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Julie Billiart Church, Dartmouth at 10 AM. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours Thursday, July 5th from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 330 Congress St., 5th Floor, Boston, MA 02210 or to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
